Shoe Surprise

This morning as I stepped into my shoes in preparation for my walk, my toes met with a huge lump in the front of my shoe. I wiggled my toes around, but nothing changed. I thought to myself that it was just my insole bunched up and proceded to take off my shoe and fix it. I stuck my fingers into the toe of my shoe to straighten everything up and was not met by folded rubber. I was met by slime. Yes slime. As I recoiled in terror and wiped my fingers onto the floor mat beside me I had to sit down and think for a second. What could it be? My shoes were stored on a wooden shelf in the garage. I had just worn my shoes two days before. I had never had this problem before. As you can imagine, I let my mind wander to the most hideously disgusting thing I could think of as I sat there shaking in disgust on the stair. "Is this enough to make me not go for my walk?" I thought to myself. Over and over I searched my mind to think of a way to solve my problem without running around screaming and squirming at the thought of what could be in my shoe.

After a few convincing thoughts about how silly it was to be so scared of something so tiny it could fit in the toe of a shoe, I slowly loosened the laces on the shoe being careful not to shake it too hard. I didn't want whatever was inside to be alarmed and possibly lash out at me with it's slimy grossness. I carefully slid my finger under the back of the insole and pulled it out. Nothing. Now what? Do I dare look inside? How in the world is something so silly and small making my fingers shake and my heart audibly beat in my ears?

At this point I decided I would be brave. I loosened the laces just a tiny bit more, spreading the shoe apart and forcing myself to look down into the toe. WHAT WAS THAT? Did I just see something move? Yuck. After some more convincing, I quickly tapped the heel of the shoe on the cement floor and forced myself to keep my eyes open as the offending slime monster instantly appeared in the heel of my shoe. There it was, staring right at me.

WHAT WAS IT?!?

Did I live? Yes. Is my heart still beating faster than normal? Yes. Will I tell you what was in my shoe? No...

Why? This is my first blog giveaway! All you have to do to win is comment on this post. Tell me what you think the slimy thing in my shoe was and the first person to guess correctly will win! I will also randomly choose a second winner to receive a duplicate prize.

  1. Oh my goodness, I've just got to know what the slimy ick is. So, let me give it a try. Hum ... some kind of store-bought silly putty, or slimy stuff (probably green) that an "innocent" child put in for your (their) amusement. Am I right?

  3. Good guess Holly, that was going to be my first guess - the good 'ole icky WA slugs! So I'll go with my second guess which is freshly on my mind because of my recent encounter - a snake!

  5. I'm with Holly it sound's very sluggish to me...but maybe it was a salamander since it got all the way into your garage??

  6. I was going to guess it was a 'snail', but I'm beginning to like Holly's idea of a slug better. I vaguely remember seeing a pair of slugs somewhere we've been recently, and in my mind's fog your front poarch sounds familar. Your poarch isn't that far from the garage.

  9. Well this just isn't fair. If I were a stay at home mom like Holly with nothing to do all day I'd have been the first one to guess a slug too. Ok, I know a stay at home mom has plenty to do. :P Even though I'm absolutely positive it was a slug I'm going to say a frog. Don't ask why. Clearly it's a slug. Coming from me, who has encountered them many a times on the path behind your house.... Maybe I'll get lucky and win an identical package as winner # 2!! :)

Then I read the post, it was so well written, you got my heat going too!

I am going to guess a frog just because every one else is already guessing slug. All I can say is gross!!!!

  11. Ewwww. Must have been a really big slug. I would have thrown the shoe out, probably without looking. But I really don't like bugs.

  15. I don't want to be boring, but I would definitely guess slug. Although how it would get into your shoe, I don't even want to think about! I'm glad Drooler isn't a year older, or else I'd be getting worried that I'd be feeling guilty soon =)

  16. I was going to guess caterpiller or moth and the slim was from you squishing it with your foot! Slug makes more sense though. Whatever it was,, EW! Very creative post! I love it.

  17. I think it is a salamander or a frog. I pick salamander first. I am glad you didn't squish it, whatever it is!

  18. I think it was *feline* regurgitation. I've had so many cats that I know all the secret hiding places; be it outright urine sample, hairballs or just plain peukin in a shoe!
