Climbing a Mountain

Last Thursday, The Mr. and I spent the day with Char. We had a lazy morning and then set out for Larrabee state park. The Mr. and I had never hiked at the park and thought that it looked like a very pretty area to hike in. We had searched the net and read about some neat hiking places via a blog The Mr. stumbled upon. We ended up following several trails and eventually hiking part of Chuckanut Ridge Trail. I am not sure how far we got, but our hike was about 2 1/2 hours long. We hiked uphill until the point that the rest of the trail ahead looked downhill, and then turned around. You can read more about the area here. The hike was so much fun, and for me, it was such a good feeling to be able to get out and participate in something like this. Having Rheumatoid Arthrtis has stopped me from doing these types of things in the past. I enjoy it so much, and wish I had the endurance to do so much more.

At the top, we came to an area where there were beautiful views, and basically cliffs on either side of us. I never knew they meant business when they called the trail a "ridge" trail! You are basically walking along a point, high up in the air. The cliffs are a safe distance on either side of you, but the one on the rocky treeless side is a straight down (90 degrees) rock face that seems to drop endlessly until it disappears into the leafy branches of the trees below. I would show you a picture, but depth/distance never comes out proper in photographs. On the way down, it was (obviously) a lot less tiring, so I stopped once and a while for some nature shots. I love nature!
