A Shower Surprise!

The Mr. and I received news that there was a huge box waiting for us at a friends house, and they weren't kidding when they said huge! This box was massive. It was covered in layers of wrapping paper and packing tape (a whole roll I heard later) and was labeled "Open Together." So we did! And we were extremely surprised to find that it was what is called a "Baby Shower in a Box!" The box was literally crammed full of paper wrapped packages of various colors and sizes. Curled ribbons spewed everywhere, tiny diapers served as packing peanuts, little parachute men, chocolate kisses and Jolly Ranchers filled in every little corner and crevice and excitement was high as we poked and prodded a few of the packages.

Something small and something big!

Okay we will!

Look at that spectacular wrapping job, complete with curled ribbons! Have you ever seen something so fancy arrive in the mail?

What we saw first! What a cool surprise. For those who aren't familiar with who this is from, these ladies from Regina and Craven are who I grew up around and spent each Lord's day with for the first 19 years of my life! They mean so much to me and to receive such an unexpected gift from them was so heartwarming.

Our surprise registering on our sleep deprived faces. :) Excuse my ghastly pallor lol. At this point we had read the directions but decided to "host the shower" the next morning when we were back at home and would have a couple of hours to spend on it. But as you can see, I couldn't help but dig around in the package a bit and play with some of the decorations!

We chose one gift to open, and it turned out to be an amazing choice! A handmade quilt made for The Little One by his very own Aunt Jolly. It's so incredibly soft on the back and the quilt has a really nice feel and weight to it. The fabrics are so fun and as you can tell I just love it!

Showing it off!

Back at home the next morning we dug into the box. In the bag that had the directions on the front of it, we found those cute goblets, chips and salsa, plates, drink mixes, umbrella straws and cheerful green napkins. We decided to unpack the entire box onto the table and go from there.

Part way through unpacking.

Look at all those colorful packages! We couldn't believe how many there were.

A blanket from Aunt LeAnne.

Look at the adorable Boxer puppy on top of that package! It's fun that Little One has a Boxer of his own.

"A Little Crabby"

Our own little Boxer- Petra! She laid here and watched in interest as we opened the packages - doesn't she look excited? ;)

Look at the spread! There were tons of packages filled with gluten-free goodies to eat and we munched to our hearts content. It was so good and such a treat as I don't usually buy things like gluten free Oreos!

Petra snoozing - she couldn't quite make it through the whole shower. :)

No Baby Shower is complete without someone spilling on themselves. I did the honors with a blob of salsa that dribbled itself down my shirt four times, bounced across the knee of my pants and landed with a splat on the floor. The aftermath is apparent in this photo.

Can you believe this photo? I mean... this is a large dining room table and it's covered!

The Little One showing you some of his gifts.

Thank you all so much for your hard work and generosity!

  6. Sorry Chatty, I didn't get around in time to get something ready before they were ready to send the box, but hope to get something to you before too long. Looked like fun getting that package. Congrats to you and Thad, he is a little sweetheart. Deb C :)

  8. Our Midwest relatives did a shower in a box for us when R was born. We have the same photos - newborn nestled in the middle of a pile of gifts, and bored dog sleeping during the party. The quilts are fantastic. Also, you might have to start calling the Little One the Little Mr., because he really resembles his father!

But it didn't seem quite that BIG! I love the pic of the 3 of you with all the stuff on the table...such a cute little family enjoying one of the most wonderful stages in life. :) And I must agree with Holly too. I've been anxiously awaiting fresh baby pics. The last one is so cute! :)

  13. I don't know, Coralee. I'm afraid Oliver is getting a little spoiled. Maybe you should share some of his gifts with Petra. She looks like she's feeling pretty left out.
What dear ladies in Craven/Regina to go to all that effort and expense for you. You both look like you are enjoying every minute of it in the pictures.
    Very fun idea!
