Today we bought a piano! The Mr, Drooler's Daddy, Phone Guy and a coworker of The Mr's moved the piano from the Lynden area to our living room! I am so excited, as you could most likely tell already from all the exclamation marks!!!! (Just had to add a few more for good measure.) The piano is an old Gulbransen player piano built in 1919 which has had the player part removed from it. It has recently been restored and is Red Mahogany- so pretty. The keys are Ivory. I really like the tone and the feel of the piano. I played so much today that my fingers are tired. I am really enjoying it!
I love it! To me, a new piano's right up there with a new baby, so congratulations! It's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I am learning to play Clair De Lune (5 flats!) and loving it.
ReplyDeleteI started with something in the key of C though- Für Elise. It's been years since I played.
I'd far prefer 5 flats to any number of sharps. For some reason, my mind doesn't like to shift up.
ReplyDeleteI love Clair De Lune, because so much of what makes it sound good is the expression put into it. It makes it sound much harder than it is.
Aunt C. I love your blog
ReplyDeleteMB-
ReplyDeleteWell I'm the opposite of you. I find sharps way way way easier to play than sharps! Weird...
S- Hi! I am glad you like it!
I forgot to mention that I am using www.pianostreet.com for free classical music. All you have to do is sign up for a free membership and you get a lot of music that is free and printable. I am so tempted to pay the fee to get more though! It sounds like I am advertising ha ha.
ReplyDeleteSo far I have printed off the scales, arpeggios, Clair De Lune, Moonlight Sonata (only 4 pages out of 14 though,)Minuet in G and Für Elise.
I am so happy for you! It looks nice! Are you going to record yourself playing and put that on your blog! Did you notice that Stephy is following your example? Thanks for leaving her a comment. For some reason she comes up as Shawn-Shawn?????!
ReplyDeleteHa ha. Did everyone see my typo? I like to play sharps better than flats. At least that is what I was trying to say. If only blogger had an edit comments button. (Smacks forehead.)
ReplyDeleteShawn- Steph's blog is also under your name, so when she created it and when she posted here, she must have been signed in as you. She should have created her own account.
