There's a lot of white around here today! The snow brings back so many memories of my childhood in Saskatchewan. Like my mom or dad helping us dig into the side of 10 foot high snow banks to hollow out a fort with tunnels, slides and steps. I miss skating on our old dugout (pond) that dad would clear off for us or renting an outdoor hockey rink somewhere for a young people's social. I remember pushing around an old chair or an upside down five gallon bucket in order to learn to skate the first time as a child. Going sledding in the valley was fun on a toboggan or crazy carpet, but if you were brave enough to climb on to the tractor tire tube, you were in for a real ride. We would also pull the tractor tire tube behind a snowmobile and one person would sit backwards behind the driver as the scout (to alert the driver that someone fell off, or intentionally not alert them!) Ah the memories. I miss the crunchy sound of deep dry Saskatchewan snow. You would be amazed at the beauty of the snow covered prairies!
*When you make your cuts, cut into the edge with the solid fold, towards the edge with two folds. I hope that helps anyone that had problems with my crazy directions and I hope you will now have success, let me know! :) I'm not that great with directions!
Oh I love the snowflake...the snow is also reminding me of winters back home in Pennsylvania, sledding down our hill and even better pulling out the old wooden runner sled when we got the occasional crust of ice...and the cold weather brings back memories of skating on the big frozen lake. BB :)
ReplyDeleteI love that snowflake. I'll have to try to make one with the kids tomorrow. School's cancelled! :)
ReplyDeleteThat huge snowflake is awesome! I'm gonna have to try one out - the directions look simple enough. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like you guys got quite a bit of snow - yay! :)
Pretty! That dry crunchy snow sound is one of my favorite things. I think we have about a foot, maybe plus a few inches all total here now. It hasn't quit all day... and we started out with about 6-8 inches, depending on where you stand! I bet you're not missing the negative 50 degrees windchill they're having up there right now tho, huh?! :-)
ReplyDeleteSnowy winters are so much fun! Love the snow flake, very cool. You guys have a ton more than us right now. Ours has actually started melting currently the they say more is coming??!!
ReplyDeleteNaomi- No, I don't miss the crazy SK temps!
ReplyDeleteIf anyone makes the snowflake, it works best with a glue stick that the lid has been left off of so it's nice and tacky.
Don't ask me why I had a tacky glue stick... that seems to happen a lot around here.
wow those snowflakes are soo awesome!!!! :D i love them.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to try the snowflake idea with my kids, too. I've been telling them we need to make paper snowflakes to put on our front window. We're sure enjoying our snow here. It's so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOk, I'm very frustrated with that snowflake! Matt and I both tried to figure it out until our brains hurt! We can't figure out what points the instructions are talking about.
ReplyDeleteMary, I am so sorry! :) Make sure you fold the the square paper twice and end up with a triangle. You are left with one edge that has two folds, one edge that doesn't have any folds and one edge that has a thick solid single fold if I remember right. Make sure you cut into the side that has the thick single fold, towards the edge wit the two folds. Then open everything up and you should see points that can be gluted together. If this still doesn't help, I will try and find better directions on the web and post those! :)
ReplyDeleteKaitlyn is sitting on my lap as I read and she just exclaimed, "who is this...she has nice things!"
ReplyDeleteThe snowflake, awesome!
That's so cute Anna! :)
ReplyDeleteWell, now we really have a LOT of snow around here! We plan to make paper snowflakes today, and we'll have to try this one out and see if we have success. I love the snowflakes on your front door! We noticed that at Shiloh's party.
