San Juan Island Camping Trip

I just love the ferries. They are so relaxing to ride and a day which includes a ferry ride is often a really fun one!

The Mr. and I met Sallad, Grace and Bri at the ferry dock in Anacortes, WA. We left our car at the ferry terminal so that it would be there for us to drive to meeting on Lord's day morning and left Sallad's truck at the boat launch. We threw all of our stuff haphazardly into the boat and it sure filled up fast. Tents, sleeping bags, pillows, clothing, stove, food... the list of what not to forget was so long! Thankfully neither of us forgot anything crucial.

Everything but the cooler and a few small bags actually fit quite well into the front/hull of the boat, which we then secured with a long bungee cord. I couldn't believe that we were actually on our way to a four night camping trip to a San Juan island only accessible by boat that I had never even heard of before. I had no clue what to expect but was really excited. This was something The Mr. and I had wanted to do for a long, long time and we are so glad that Sallad and Grace invited us to go along with them.

Anacortes boat launch and The Mr. Wasn't it a beautiful day to set out on the Sound?

We're off! Once you're out of the "no wake" zone, reality sets in. It really is amazing out in the San Juan's.

Did you know that if you count both the San Juan Islands in the US and the Gulf Islands in Canada that there are over 450 Islands? There is no actual count because of the tide and fewer than one-sixth are permanently inhabited.

Mt. Baker in the far distance.

This is one of the largest ferries in the area.

This is one of the smallest ferries in the area. Basically a car taxi to any island you want to pay them to take you to.

Stay tuned! The next few days there should be a lot of posting as I just sorted through my trip photos today and uploaded them to 5 different posts. It is so fun reliving the memories and I hope you enjoy the photos as I share them as well as their stories!
